Usually, when a woman approaches the idea of doing a Boudoir Session, it's thought of as a gift for their partner. A wedding or anniversary gift, Valentine's Day, and birthday, etc. Which, don’t get me wrong, it IS the perfect gift, But the real gift here is for yourself. There is NOTHING wrong with a little self-love. If you do a Boudoir Session for anyone, let it be for you too.
A Boudoir session is FUN- you get to play dress up and be a super model for a day. You'll feel pampered as you get your hair and makeup done, while sipping champagne. Your favorite music will be playing. You'll really feel like a movie star.
BUT, the best part actually come AFTER your session. From when you see your images the first time, to receiving the finished album, and best fo all getting to relive the whole experience every time you look at your images. You'll see the true beauty in you that you often forget is there.
The boost in self-confidence you'll receive is worth years of therapy, and a lifetime of self-help books. If you don't believe me, here are some more words from just a few of the women I've had the honor to empower recently...
“I loved everything about this experience. It was my first boudoir photo shoot and I was super nervous as I had never done anything like that before. Brittany sat down before the shoot and we talked about the style I was going for. It was a 1st wedding anniversary gift to my husband. I am definitely pretty self-conscious, but she made me feel completely comfortable in my own skin. She made it totally fun! My husband was speechless after I gave him the beautiful book that Brittany put together. He has told me on numerous occasions that it his most beloved possession. Thank you for all your amazing work and for making me feel beautiful!!!” ~ Megan
Who doesn't need a little ego or confidence boost from time to time? This is a way to do it once, but have the results forever. One of my clients recently said-
“I Haven't felt this amazing, empowered And gorgeous in a long time!!! Thank you so much!!!” ~ Kaitlyn”

“To love is to stop comparing.” – Bernard Grasset
The last thing I want is this blog post to come across as preachy, because girl I STRUGGLE with this! If anything I am preaching to myself as I write this! Social Media plays a huge role in this as we are constantly scrolling and seeing *what looks like* everyone’s perfect life before us. Even when preparing yourself for this boudoir photography session, you will most likely go to Pinterest for inspiration. Which I encourage you to do, but the problem comes when you look at that inspiration and say, “I like this, but I will never look that (beautiful, skinny, perfect).”
If you don’t hear anything today, but this: Be Real, not Perfect! Celebrate those things that make you who you are, and don’t be afraid to be imperfectly, perfect.
So how do you break this cycle of comparing yourself with others? Here are some tips I’ve found useful at: https://zenhabits.net/lifes-enough-stop-comparing-yourself-to-others/
I get asked about tanning often and I actually learned about this lesson the hard way. I got a spray tan a few days before a friend’s wedding where I was a bridesmaid. I did all the right things: researched the best places, didn’t go cheap, and followed all the directions. It turned out really well and I thought it looked great….UNTIL I saw her wedding pictures, where I looked like a cheeto next to everyone else. In pictures spray tans come across orange and uneven. Unfortunately, I have had a few clients who also learned this lesson the hard way, so I wanted to do a quick blog post on the subject.
Spray Tans - Even if you spray tan regularly, do not get a spray tan in the days leading to your boudoir shoot. No matter how excellent the tanning solution is or how great it looks in person, it will not come off that way in your images. Spray tans (and other tanning products) are notorious for clinging to drier areas of your skin, like your knees, ankles, and wrists. It also tends to wear off on the hands, feet, and face before the rest of your body, creating a very uneven orangey looking skin tone contrast. All areas will be highly visible in your photographs, and are typically too contrasting to properly edit and smooth out.
Tanning Beds - Though tanning beds can give you a more natural look, there always tends to be a line or two from laying on the bed that tans inconsistently. Usually around the lower back and booty.
Like everything about boudoir, natural is better. Don’t be afraid to be your true self. A shade lighter won’t hide any of your true beauty!
A milk bath maternity session is a great way to celebrate this exciting milestone in your life in a breathtakingly gorgeous way. You certainly do not want to miss out on this perfect way to document your pregnancy in a stunning piece of art.
Your milk bath experience includes the lace maternity dress, flowers, floral headpiece, and any other props you want to incorporate.
Choosing your perfect outfits for a boudoir shoot can be a stressful task. I’ve compiled 12 tips to help you pick great outfits for your boudoir photography session so you will be looking amazing and feel sexy for your boudoir session!
1. PICK FLATTERING PIECES
Who browsing the Internet for boudoir photos, you will feel pressure to pick lingerie that is trendy or doesn’t match your personality. Which will often lead to girls picking pieces that don't fit them well in personality or body type. You want to highlight YOUR curves and YOUR personality. The main objective is that YOU feel SEXY.
2. PICK A VARIETY
Think of ways to have as much variety from the pieces you select as possible. This will give you the most diverse images as a collection, which will give you the most images to select from the session.
3. DON’T BE SCARED OF COLOR
It's very common for clients to feel that they have to bring all black lingerie to their shoots, which removes some of the character that colorful pieces can offer. Black outfits are some of my favorites, but don't shy away from color to add a pop of energy and personality into your outfit.
4. GRAB A PAIR OF HIGH HEELS
High heels force a posture that will shine in boudoir. These also bring interesting shots with focus on shoes (so make sure you bring a pair you love!) personality to the shoot. Black heels are a must, but don’t be afraid to add a pop of color with your heels too.
5. NEW/BARELY USED IS BEST
Let’s face it shopping for new lingerie is half the fun. That new feeling will help you feel fresh and sexy. Also, you are preserving this look forever in a keepsake that you will look at in 20 years - you want to make sure this experience is tied to the outfit that doesn’t look beat up.
6. PUSH-UP BRAS WORK
If ever there was a time for a little boost it is during a boudoir session. Push-up bras add visual power to almost every pose and will have your chest looking its best.
7. BRING EXTRA BRAS/PANTIES
Having simple and complex bras and panties will offer the most flexibility. I recommend at least a black and nude set. They can be paired together or with any other outfit so that they can add some spice to outfits with a small change.
8. IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE LINGERIE
Yes, Lingerie is a natural choice for boudoir. However, it isn't the only option for boudoir. Simple outfits such as a button down shirt, robe, oversized sweater and panties can be equally as powerful as lingerie. Find some piece with sentimental value or that you could see yourself wearing during those sexier times in life to spice up your boudoir images.
9. WRINKLE FREE
You want to avoid wrinkles for your outfits. Steam your outfits and bring your clothing to the shoot on hangers and using bags over them to help them stay pristine.
10. CHECK FOR TAGS
Clothing tags may be easily missed on shoot day. I am usually watching for clothing tags during shooting but if it slips through, there are situations where it cannot be edited out. Consider removing these from your outfits to the inside of the piece before you arrive.
11. TRY ON YOUR OUTFITS
You don’t want to find out that your outfit doesn’t fit or has a loose section on the day of the shoot, so try it on before you leave. Loose lingerie or lingerie that is too tight does not lend to making your feel or looking as sexy as you can. The perfect-fitting outfit will highlight your curves and not add detriment to them by creating creases in skin or hanging off of you, especially once you get into some more involved poses.
12. TRUST YOURSELF
Find items that you feel naturally drawn to. A Boudoir sessions is all about YOU. Be honest with what you want. You will feel twice as good on the shoot day when you honestly like your outfit. You want to let your personality shine here, so being honest with what you like is the best first step in that process.

Self-assurance is alluring. There are times you just have to put yourself out there to see how amazing you really are. It really puts into perspective how awesome you are, especially once you see the photos. So what are you waiting for?

Let's talk about pin-up photography and why it could be one of the most empowering experiences. Pin-up got its name because the photos were meant to be “pinned-up” instead of framed, the pin-up is over 100 years old. Origins can be traced back to as early as the Victorian era. However, the term “pin-up” didn’t come to be until the 1940s and has since become a popular way for curvy women and women of all sizes to confidently showcase their beautiful bodies, and their playful, sexual side.
WHY I LOVE PIN-UP PHOTOGRAPHY
One of the main reasons I love curvy pin-up photography is that it’s all about female empowerment and body positivity. Whether you are a size two or are plus-size, it’s time to embrace your beautiful body.
5 ELEMENTS OF PIN-UP PHOTOGRAPHY
Creating the pin-up look, unlike many other stereotypical portrait photography, is about having fun, using props, and embracing vintage lingerie. Below are five elements to embrace your pin-up photography session.
IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU
Being a pin-up isn’t about trying to fit a genre: it is all about you. When you decide to do a pin-up photo shoot with our Chattanooga boudoir studio, we create the perfect shoot for you — with different poses, styles, and outfits. As we envision your shoot, we will take all of this into consideration to create a photo shoot that shows off your many assets.
POSING & PROPS
Though having fun is one of the main elements of a pin-up photoshoot, no true pin-up shoot is candid. Each pose is carefully calculated and formulated by your photographer to accentuate your beauty. As you work with us, we will help you find the most flattering poses. Another main element of a pin-up photoshoot is the props; anything from lollipops and lipstick, to classic cars and vintage phones, can be a part of your shoot. The options are endless — have fun!
FUN & PLAYFUL
When you do a pin-up photo-shoot it’s time to bring out your fun and playful side. Pin-up photography throughout history has always been about being playful with a strong undercurrent of sexual energy and confidence. Don’t stress about being provocative, just channel your sexy, playful side and have fun. Through the use of props, makeup, and costume, we will help create a fun atmosphere that will make having a good time easy.
MAKEUP & HAIR
Gals, it’s time to glam it up! Pin-up photography is all about glamorous vintage hair and makeup styles. Lipstick and winged eye-liner are stereotypical of a pin-up shoot as well as vintage style hair with victory-curls, baby bangs, and ringlets. We can often add a modern flair and other style elements that bring out your own personality. Also, there are many different styles that you can embody as the star of your pin-up photo shoot.
Many people think that you have to be a certain body type to embody the pin-up style, but that’s not true at all! Any woman can be a pin-up supermodel— it’s time to embrace your beautiful curves! A pin-up photoshoot is an empowering experience, because we are celebrating your personality, your body, and your sexuality.
BOUDOIR IS A FRENCH WORD MEANING “A WOMAN’S BEDROOM”
In photography terms, boudoir is a photographic style featuring intimate, romantic, and sensual photos. Women usually pose in lingerie for fine art photographs to share with their significant other. These types of portraits are sensual and sexy and are meant to be empowering. If a woman decides on nudity, it is usually implied and tastefully elegant.
But, Boudoir at Haute View is so much more than just this definition. We want our clients to walk away feeling beautiful and confident in themselves with who they are at this time in their lives. Whether that's celebrating a milestone like getting married, a special anniversary, or birthday. Or if it's for a confidence booster that you need just for YOU.
Brittany is the camera, heart, and soul behind Haute View Boudoir in Chattanooga, TN. Her mission is to empower women to feel confident and beautiful in their own skin.
