Why Boudoir Photos Make Great Gifts

Whether you’re a few months away from walking down the aisle or you’ve been married for years already, a boudoir shoot can result in fun, sexy photos that make great gifts. These glamorous photography sessions allow you to get pampered and dolled up, wear pretty lingerie, and give your now or future husband a really unique and intimate gift. Here are a few of the reasons why you might choose to schedule a boudoir shoot:

It lets him know you’re always thinking about him
Your other half might be expecting a watch or some themed cuff links as your pre-wedding or anniversary gift, so imagine the jaw-dropping surprise on his face when he opens the box to find a book full of perfectly captured pictures of his gorgeous wife. A full book or even just a single framed picture from your boudoir shoot is something that your husband will treasure forever. He’ll know that you were thinking of him at the time of your shoot, but also that you were thinking ahead to giving him a gift that will outlast any tie or tech gadget.

Keeps the excitement alive
Everyday stresses and responsibilities can make us feel tired and sometimes a bit disconnected from one another. Giving boudoir photos as a gift is a great way to nudge the spark back up to where it should be. No matter where you are in your journey, it’s important to keep dating each other, and part of that is finding romantic ways to surprise each other. Boudoir shoots are a fantastic way to accomplish this goal.

Makes you feel confident
While this is definitely a gift for your groom, it’s also a gift for you, too. Dressing up and posing for these daring and exciting photographs will give you a huge boost of confidence. Your photographer will pick poses that flatter your body type, and it’ll be a fun experience for you, as well as your husband. As an added bonus, if your shoot is before your wedding, you’ll already have your honeymoon lingerie ready to go!

Printing your Images from your Boudoir Session

Printing your boudoir images is something that I feel strongly about, and not just because I offer products, but because it gives you a physical connection to your images. It gives you something that you can touch and look back on when you are having one of those, "less than gorgeous days" we ALL have! Printing your images really helps to bring the whole boudoir experience full circle in a way that a digital image just can’t live up to.

I am happy to offer a variety of prints, albums, canvas, and other specialty products for my boudoir clients. All of my company’s are professional labs with the highest security (unlike your neighborhood pharmacy photo lab). I keep the prices affordable and offer payment plans, so please let me know if you have any hesitation or questions and I would be happy to help in any way.

Hair and Make-up Tips for your Boudoir Session

9/26/2019

The lens of a camera and professional lighting captures your face different than the way your eyes do when you look at yourself in the mirror in natural light. This is why it is important to do your hair and makeup for your boudoir photo shoot a little differently than you normally would. Here are a few tips and ways to find inspiration and look stunning in your boudoir images.

I highly recommend you book one of amazing professional hair and make-up artist. They are all professionals trained as to what looks and colors look best with your features. If a professional artist is doing your hair and makeup:
  • Be specific: bring in multiple images that demonstrate exactly how you want your flawless face to look.
  • Be You: Do not try something that is drastically different for the first time
  • Be Honest: If you want to try something or don’t like something, speak up! The artist wants you to love your hair and make-up and in turn love your images, so don’t be afraid to be honest with them.

If you are doing your own hair and make-up:
  • Face: Apply a fuller coverage, matte foundation to create a smooth skin tone. Be sure that the color matches your body and is blended evenly. Top it off with a translucent powder for a flawless finish! Don’t use a lot of shiny highlights, as the lights will make them even shinier.
  • Cheeks: The camera washes out about 40% of color, so it is beneficial to apply a little more blush or bronzer than you usually do. Also, it never hurts to do some research on Youtube and watch ‘How To’ videos on contouring.
  • Eyes: Whether you are going for a more dramatic or natural look, fake eyelashes do wonders! They accentuate your eyes, giving you a brighter and more lively appearance. Don’t be afraid to play up your eyes, they are the focus of your boudoir images.
  • Lips: For you bolder women, own it! The bright colors add warmth to your face and draw attention to your pout perfectly. We keep a variety of lip colors in the studio, so you can change your lipstick each time you do an outfit change! If you are a woman who goes for a more natural look, it is still important to add a clear gloss or color that is only a couple shades darker then your natural color to give your lips that alluring dimension.
  • Hair: Most girls opt for sexy bed-head curls, but you don’t have to limit yourself to just one hairstyle during your boudoir photo shoot. Come to the session in a hairstyle that you can easily pin back, put up, and take down. You want to give yourself a variety of options in case one style isn’t capturing on camera how you imagined it would. In addition, voluminous hair tends to photograph better, so apply a dry shampoo to your roots for some extra lift and tease your hair as needed.
  • Nails: Paint them. Chipped nails on camera stand out. Or even better treat yourself to a mani-pedi the day before!

I Stepped into your Shoes...and it was scary

8/26/2019

Well ladies, I did it, I got in front of a camera....a video camera. I have been wanting to make a video about my "why" and how boudoir found me, but I have been putting it off...for years. What's worse is I was using the same excuses you have: I need to lose a few pounds, I'm going to look (and sound) stupid, etc.

Then one day I started to put it on paper, exactly how I felt about the gift of boudoir and what I wanted to tell you ladies, and then I just KNEW I had to do it! I enlisted the incredibly talented Matti Godfrey of Foxy Creations Video to come to the studio for a few sessions and this is the magic she created.

When I first watched it, I thought I would pick apart every little thing or mistake I made, but it felt so TRUE to myself that I couldn't. It is ME, that's how I really look, how I really sound, and those are the real smiles and laughs I give my clients during a session. (And yes I made the #1 Photographer Pet Peeve of leaving a hair tie on my wrist the whole time...ARGH)

At the end of the day, if we can be ok with being ourselves, then we can focus on others.

What NOT to wear for your Boudoir Session

8/5/2019

Picture
When thinking about what you’re going to wear for your Chattanooga Boudoir Session, sometimes it’s best to start with what you should avoid. You might be tempted to just go to your pajama drawer and pull something you already have, which is totally fine in some cases, but sometimes your sleepwear is not the answer for photos.

1.) Baby Dolls and Nightgowns - While these are comfortable for sleeping they do nothing for your shape. No matter your shape or size, you want lingerie that accentuates your curves, not flowy material. Same with silk nightgowns, even though they look and feel luxurious, the fabric has no give and does not show your natural shape in a flattering way.

2.) Bright Colors - In photos bright colors will photograph even brighter, leaving your clothing to stand out more than you. We want to draw attention to your natural beauty, so softer colors, jewel tones, and darker colors will help do just that.

3.) Crazy Patterns - Same as the bright colors, you don’t want your outfit to be so busy that we loose you in the photo. A simple two toned lace is a perfect way to add texture without being too distracting.

Of course, in all things, there is an exception to every rule! So if you have something YOU LOVE that falls within this list, feel free to bring it and we can always find a pose or lighting to make you look amazing in it. The most important thing is that you are being the real YOU!

Boudoir…The Best Gift you ever gave yourself

7/23/2019

Usually, when a woman approaches the idea of doing a Boudoir Session, it's thought of as a gift for their partner. A wedding or anniversary gift, Valentine's Day, and birthday, etc. Which, don’t get me wrong, it IS the perfect gift,  But the real gift here is for yourself. There is NOTHING wrong with a little self-love. If you do a Boudoir Session for anyone, let it be for you too.

A Boudoir session is FUN- you get to play dress up and be a super model for a day.  You'll feel pampered as you get your hair and makeup done, while sipping champagne. Your favorite music will be playing. You'll really feel like a movie star.

BUT, the best part actually come AFTER your session. From when you see your images the first time, to receiving the finished album, and best fo all getting to relive the whole experience every time you look at your images. You'll see the true beauty in you that you often forget is there.

The boost in self-confidence you'll receive is worth years of therapy, and a lifetime of self-help books. If you don't believe me, here are some more words from just a few of the women I've had the honor to empower recently...

“I loved everything about this experience. It was my first boudoir photo shoot and I was super nervous as I had never done anything like that before. Brittany sat down before the shoot and we talked about the style I was going for. It was a 1st wedding anniversary gift to my husband. I am definitely pretty self-conscious, but she made me feel completely comfortable in my own skin. She made it totally fun! My husband was speechless after I gave him the beautiful book that Brittany put together. He has told me on numerous occasions that it his most beloved possession. Thank you for all your amazing work and for making me feel beautiful!!!” ~ Megan

Who doesn't need a little ego or confidence boost from time to time? This is a way to do it once, but have the results forever. One of my clients recently said-

“I Haven't felt this amazing, empowered And gorgeous in a long time!!! Thank you so much!!!” ~ Kaitlyn”

Boudoir is about YOU! Stop comparing yourself to others!

“To love is to stop comparing.” – Bernard Grasset

The last thing I want is this blog post to come across as preachy, because girl I STRUGGLE with this! If anything I am preaching to myself as I write this!  Social Media plays a huge role in this as we are constantly scrolling and seeing *what looks like* everyone’s perfect life before us. Even when preparing yourself for this boudoir photography session, you will most likely go to Pinterest for inspiration. Which I encourage you to do, but the problem comes when you look at that inspiration and say, “I like this, but I will never look that (beautiful, skinny, perfect).”

If you don’t hear anything today, but this: Be Real, not Perfect! Celebrate those things that make you who you are, and don’t be afraid to be imperfectly, perfect.

So how do you break this cycle of comparing yourself with others? Here are some tips I’ve found useful at: https://zenhabits.net/lifes-enough-stop-comparing-yourself-to-others/

  • Awareness. Most often we do these social comparisons without realizing we’re doing it. It’s a natural act, I suppose, and as a result it’s something that is done without consciousness. So the solution is to become conscious — bring these thoughts to the forefront of your consciousness by being on the lookout for them. If you focus on these thoughts for a few days, it gets much easier with practice, and soon it’ll be hard not to notice.
  • Stop yourself. Once you realize you’re doing these comparisons, give yourself a pause. Don’t berate yourself or feel bad — just acknowledge the thought, and gently change focus.
  • Count your blessings. A better focus is on what you do have, on what you are already blessed with. Count what you have, not what you don’t. Think about how lucky you are to have what you have, to have the people in your life who care about you, to be alive at all.
  • Focus on your strengths. Instead of looking at your weaknesses, ask yourself what your strengths are. Celebrate them! Be proud of them. Don’t brag, but feel good about them and work on using them to your best advantage.
  • Be OK with imperfection. No one is perfect — intellectually, we all know that, but emotionally we seem to feel bad when we don’t reach perfection. You aren’t perfect and you never will be. I certainly am not, and I’ve learned to be OK with that. Sure, keep trying to improve, but don’t think you’ll ever be the “perfect person”. If you look at it in a different way, that imperfection is what makes you who you are, you already are perfect.
  • Don’t knock others down. Sometimes we try to criticize others just to make ourselves look or feel better. Taking someone else down for your benefit is destructive. It forms an enemy when you could be forming a friend. In the end, that hurts you as well. Instead, try to support others in their success — that will lead to more success on your part.
  • Focus on the journey. Don’t focus on how you rank in comparison to others — life is not a competition. It’s a journey. We are all on a journey, to find something, to become something, to learn, to create. That journey has nothing to do with how well other people are doing, or what they have. It has everything to do with what we want to do, and where we want to go. That’s all you need to worry about.
  • Learn to love enough. If you always want what others have, you will never have enough. You will always want more. That’s an endless cycle, and it will never lead to happiness. No matter how many clothes you buy, no matter how many houses you own (seven, in the case of one famous candidate), no matter how many fancy cars you acquire … you’ll never have enough. Instead, learn to realize that what you have is already enough. If you have shelter over your head, food on the table, clothes on your back, and people who love you, you are blessed. You have enough. Anything you have over and above that — and let’s admit that all of us reading this blog have more than that — is more than enough. Be good with that, and you’ll find contentment.
